Our Story

1. Sustainability

MATERIALS

All Yoga Mats material is made from Natural tree rubber, and a natural fibre extracted from the husk of a coconut, which is a valuable resource to Sri Lanka. Coconut husk itself is a sustainable material it has a greater capacity to biodegrade at the end of product life than synthetic materials.

A common issue with the sustainability side of yoga mats is the plastic use which is both toxic and produces toxic waste.

NATURAL PLANT BASED DYES

Our Yoga Mats,  whenever possible we opt for this natural dyeing process. Our beautiful, earthy colours come from using various plant materials.

To make the colours bright and fast we use natural mordants such as myrobalan, rhubarb leaves, oils, minerals, alum and iron vat.  We don’t use heavy metal mordants like copper, chrome, zinc or tin.

There is no better feeling knowing your yoga mat are made sustainable. You can feel and smell mother nature with every movement and solace is to be taken knowing that you are making positive choices for our planet.

PACKAGING

Our yoga mats come to you in recyclable brown paper. For shipment, we use 100% compostable packing. These can be composted in your home compost! Our bags are bio-based ie. partly made from plants and biodegradable with no toxic residues (or micro-plastics!)

2. Fair Trade

We work with a very reliable and traditional manufacturer in Sri Lanka. We are building a business based on strong partnerships and a quality product.

3. High Quality

The quality of Body Mind Connect  yoga mats is a direct result of the handmade nature of the product. Traditional dying- techniques used by true craftsmen to perfect each individual mat. We design our Yoga mats to last, they are beautifully crafted yoga mats that you will practice on for years to come.

Our design emphasis is on the environment and each yoga mat design. We don’t release a lot of different colours or styles every year, our focus is on refining and perfecting our product. We want to create a unique product, that only gets better with time.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Body Mind Connect Eco friendly Yoga Mats was created in Byron Bay in 2017 by our director and designer, Nadia Dell’oro.

We are a sustainable brand, creating unique design mats that combine both style and function. Since the beginning, Nadia has designed beautiful natural yoga mats inspired by Mother Nature. Her creative designs are made with natural tree rubber, coconut husk fibre and beautiful earth tone colours.

Body Mind Connect  was created on four strong foundations: sustainability, earth friendly,  fair trade, and  hand made ethically. Nadia built something unique and authentic whilst based in Byron bay while our designs are made handcrafted in Sri Lanka.

Nadia grew up around in the Adelaide Hills best nature settings atmosphere. She studied and worked in yoga and moved to Byron bay Australia in 2019. Nadia loves the creativity and openness of the teachings of yoga and it’s practice.

“I practice yoga and meditation daily, thinking about people’s needs. My priorities whilst practicing are comfort and quality. My designs are inspired by nature, time spent with beautiful people and the protection of Mother Earth. My mats are very earthy, sustainable and ethically made. I like to celebrate life, keep my traditions of yoga practice and support slow fashion and fair trade. Byron Bay has inspired me to create the best.” x Nadia
